Rosemary Partridge

I came to Canada in 1958 from England, where I had trained as a nurse in London, but my real interest is the natural world and its non-human inhabitants. I love them, delight in them, worry about them and grieve for them, and try to express that passion  in painting, drawing, carving and enamelling.

Work is developed mostly from sketches and observation, with backup reference to stay anatomically true to the subject, even though it's the spirit I want to express.

Life drawing is also a long held interest, expressing the figure mainly with line and aiming at simplicity and eloquence rather than detail. I love the classic look of sanguine, often combined with a muted acrylic background.
