Dorothy Tinman paints landscapes and seascapes in a modern semi-abstract style using thick impasto oils, often contrasted with areas of transparent glazes. Her paintings are influenced by the dramatic changes of weather from the intense white light of a low winter sun, to the darkest blue of an approaching storm.
Dorothy is an elected member of the Ulster Society of Woman Artists and the Arts Society of Ulster and exhibits regularly with them. In addition, her work has been selected on 6 occasions for the annual exhibition of the Royal Ulster Academy.
She is also a member of the Salt Spring Arts Council.
Her paintings are included in many collections including the First Trust Bank, Ireland and in the British Isles, Canada, USA and Salt Spring Island.
This year she has broadened her range to include encaustic wax and oils creating texture and relishing the tactility of the medium to draw the viewer in.

About Encaustic Painting
Encaustic is an ancient painting method in which wax and pigment are fused onto a surface with heat.
The word originates from the Greek word enkaustikos meaning to burn in. Earliest examples of this technique are probably the Egyptian Fayum mummy portraits which date back to 1st century BC.
Encaustic painting is also known as hot wax painting and involves using heated beeswax to which is added oil paint. This is then applied in layers to prepared wood with each layer being fused to the previous one with a blow torch or heat gun. The resulting finish is as hard and as permanent as a ceramic tile with a dimensional texture and luminous quality.
Probably the most famous artists to paint with encaustic are the Canadian Tony Scherman and Jasper Johns USA.

“Playtime” approaches Photography as an additive medium, and as a site for sculptural and instinctive activity.
These pictures begin in the colour darkroom, where I make colour photograms (any process of making a photograph with no camera), using photographic paper, colour filters and light. I bring these prints to a studio, where I make in camera multiple exposure photographs of them, accentuating their physicality for the camera while their colours and forms interact inside of it.
Both the studio and the darkroom are used to explore spaces of instincts, intuition and improvisation. To me, photographs are created through a relationship between anapparatus (or instrument) and a practitioner (or player) whose various decisions and actions largely affect the outcome of the photograph. The spaces I work in stem from a curiosity towardsthis form picture making; “What would this gesture or action look like?” is a common question within my practice as a whole.
I came to photography through a love of music, and my initial relation to this additive activity was the track by track layering process of recorded music. Also inspired by the sonic environments created by full albums, I’m interested in the affection of a photograph and in making photographic worlds for viewers to get lost in. Hopefully, they find something there too.
Far Shore- A Celebration of the Salish Sea by Evelyn Russell

The Far Shore is a collection of Hand Printed works by Artist Evelyn Russell. It is a dedication to the Salish Sea, Vancouver Island, The Gulf Islands and the Sunshine Coast. It is arbutus trees, whitecaps, orca whales, pebble beaches, rain forests and harvest moons. It is kelp beds, windy days, starry nights and the sound of sea lions. The show is also a call to arms, a wake up call, step up protect and defend this Salish Sea. A portion of the proceeds from sales will go to charities that uphold environmental conservancy in the area.
