At the end of November, after 17 years in its current location on McPhillips Avenue, our co-op gallery will be moving . Since its inception, the gallery has become an increasingly important part of the island’s visual arts community. A change in emphasis was accelerated in 2018 when we began renting the back room to Salt Spring guest artists on a three-week rotation. The rental helps to defray the gallery costs and keeps the co-op members’ commission at a reasonable rate. However the main benefit of this exhibition space has been to offer a venue for local artists to display their work outside of commercial galleries at a fair cost. With our experienced members and their hanging and marketing assistance, respected Salt Spring artists have graced our walls and earned us a reputation as a friendly and supportive venue. We are sad to leave our long-time home and are actively searching for our next location.

Friday November 13, you are invited to join Departures Lounge, the last show in the gallery's McPhillips Avenue location: We have selected a special collection from the members’s work to colour the greyer seasons with our dedication and love: work that reflects the artist’s path in motion. There will be a silent auction as part of the show. The auction will resume at our closing reception Gala, Friday November 27, 5-8 pm- entry by donation.

New visitors and all who have come to love and appreciate our little cultural hub are invited to enjoy some snacks and wine, live music, the conclusion of our silent auction and the priced Robert Bateman hand printed lithograph draw. At this closing event you can also take advantage of 15% discount on all works hung at the gallery. We hope all our supporters and friends will join us to make this evening a great gathering and wish us bon voyage! What great time to celebrate the 17 years of participating members’ joint efforts and achievements! It will also be an opportunity to help raise awareness and funds to tackle the big task of relocating and re-inventing a gallery at the next destination. With big gratitude to all patrons and collaborators to sustain the Salt Spring Gallery!
